Pathway to Medical Assisting
Chatfield’s medical assisting pathway combines the liberal arts core with medical assisting courses at The Christ Hospital School of Nursing. Students enrolled in this program can begin working toward their Certificate in Medical Assisting after completing their first year at Chatfield College.
The Medical Assisting Pathway requires students to complete a minimum of 16 semester hours from The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences. After completing the required courses for the Medical Assisting Clinical Certificate, students will be eligible to take the CCMA exam through the National Health Career Association.
Students interested in the medical field may wonder, “is an associate in liberal arts worth it?” By gaining an associate degree from Chatfield, students are also prepared to transfer to four-year institutions to continue their education toward a bachelor’s degree in a medical-related field.
Chatfield College graduates who choose the medical assisting pathway can go on to:
- complete a nursing degree.
- earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees from many colleges and universities.
- work in physician offices, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities.
Please note that pathways are not majors or minors. They are a focused way to complete your elective requirements for an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts.
