At Chatfield, we call our student success model, "High-touch + High-tech." Student success is our highest priority. You’ll have the support and resources to help you succeed at every step of your Chatfield experience.
The first day of school can be disorienting; we’re here to make sure it’s just the opposite. Before day one, you’ll meet with your advisor to create your schedule. They'll make sure you are registering for the right courses.
Students meet with their advisors at least once each term, whether in-person or remotely. We encourage all students to make appointments with advisors as needed throughout each term.
Advising Mission Statement
The Academic advising department at Chatfield College is dedicated to continuing the Chatfield mission of empowering students who might best succeed within our supportive, small college experience. Our mission is to promote and encourage students to develop and implement sound educational plans that are consistent with their personal values, goals, and career plans. Our purpose is to guide students to become self-directed learners and decision-makers.
Student + Advisor Responsibilities
Advisors can help you understand all of your options and avoid needless mistakes, but only if you take the initiative to seek their advice. Your responsibilities in the advising relationship are:
- Prepare for and keep appointments
- Know and follow academic plans
- Use college resources
- Attend and participate in class
- Take responsibility for and own decisions
- Review academic progress
- Clarify college policies, regulations, programs, and procedures
- Monitor student progress; discuss academic performance and the implications of performance on desired program and financial aid.
- Be familiar with program requirements
- Be a responsive listener and refer to appropriate support services within the college or community when needed
- Motivate students to take responsibility for their own academic and career goals
- Offer advice on selecting courses and assist in developing an academic plan that satisfies degree requirements.
American's with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA)
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law on July 26, 1990, by President George H.W. Bush. The ADA is one of America's most comprehensive pieces of civil rights legislation that prohibits discrimination and guarantees that people with disabilities have the same opportunities as everyone else to participate in the mainstream of American life -- to enjoy employment opportunities, to purchase goods and services, and to participate in State and local government programs and services. Modeled after the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin – and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 -- the ADA is an "equal opportunity" law for people with disabilities. To be protected by the ADA, one must have a disability, which is defined by the ADA as a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities (ada.gov).

ADA Accommodation Request Process
- Student notifies the ADA Officer at Chatfield College of accommodation need(s).
- Student and ADA Officer meet to review the ADA Accommodation Request Form/Process.
- Student meets with a medical professional to have the ADA Accommodation Request form completed (medical professional should provide recommendations regarding accommodations).
- Student submits the completed ADA Accommodation Request Form to the ADA Officer for review and approval.
- ADA Officer reviews the completed ADA Accommodation Request Form and responds within 7 days.
- ADA Officer and Student will meet to discuss approved reasonable accommodations.
- ADA Officer notifies the Dean and respective Faculty and then monitors the student’s progress and accommodation.
