We Support the Black Community

Chatfield College joins those who are speaking out against violence and seeking racial justice in America. Words alone are not adequate; only sustained action will place us on a path toward true racial justice.  The Mission and Values of Chatfield College are focused on people.  All people!  We are committed to breaking down the barriers that lead to a lack of health, social, and educational disparity.  As a Catholic institution we rely on the Church’s tradition and social teachings.   St. Angela, foundress of the Ursulines, was focused on the intrinsic value of every human being, made in the image and likeness of God.  This value embodies the inclusiveness of race, gender, religion and economic status.

The denial of equal justice affects people of color across generations.  Members of our family have been silenced, ignored, oppressed, or targeted, even by systems, institutions and individuals entrusted to protect all people. These inequalities are no different than a long-lasting pandemic. Just as many can be sickened by a few, so too can the inequalities of the few sicken the whole.  As a member of our community, we are committed to resolving inequity for the betterment of all. We invite all to seek ways to engage in meaningful dialogue and actions that will bring the changes needed to eradicate centuries of systemic racism, evident in personal beliefs and institutional practices. We pray that the entire community will be inspired to a lifelong commitment to learning, growing and valuing ALL PEOPLE.

Therefore, we affirm to you our unwavering support for members of the Black community, and our commitment to seek racial justice. We believe all members of our community should be treated with care, dignity and respect. We hear you and stand with you to end racial injustice and we support criminal justice reform to end this oppression.

Sincerely,
