2017 Quilt Show Awards Announced

On Saturday, April 29th, Chatfield College hosted its annual Car, Craft & Quilt Show at the St. Martin campus in St. Martin, Ohio.  This show has been on Chatfield’s event calendar for more than 40 years.

More than 70 quilts were on display at this year’s show, which included an Americana-themed quilt challenge.  A total of 16 ribbons were awarded.  In the challenge, Cheryl Kern, of St. Martin, won 1st place in the machine quilted bed quilt category for her quilt “Red, White, and Sometimes Blue”; Lisa Hardesty, of Fayetteville, won first place in the machine quilted wall hanging category for her quilt “Scraps of My Heart”; Theresa Roush, of Wilmington, won first place in the hand quilted bed quilt category for her quilt “Family Reunion”; and Jean Covert, of Otway, OH won first place in the hand quilted wall hanging category for her quilt “2003 Bicentennial.”

Best of Show ribbons went to Dee Brown, of Milford, for her machine quilted wall hanging “School House Beach” and Maureen Mullarkey, of Batavia for her machine quilted bed quilt “On Eagles Wings.”  Jean Covert garnished Best of Show ribbons for her hand quilted wall hanging, “Autumn” and her hand quilted bed quilt “Trip Around the Square.”

Winners of the Judge’s Choice ribbons were Jean Covert, for hand quilting; Grace Yunker, of Maysville, for machine quilting and applique; and Dee Brown, for piecing.

Grace Yunker also won Viewer’s Choice ribbons for her machine quilted bed quilt “Joys of Winter” and her machine quilted wall hanging “Christmas Presents”.  Viewer’s Choice ribbons were also awarded to Dolores Coffman, of Fayetteville, for a hand quilted wall hanging “Stars & Stripes Forever” made by Theresa Cronin and Patricia Brink, of Cincinnati, for a hand-quilted bed quilt “Stained Glass Flowers,” also made by Theresa Cronin.
