As the Class of 2019 prepares to graduate, Chatfield College is grateful for the support of the Charles H. Dater Foundation. For the eleventh year, the Charles H. Dater Foundation has funded Chatfield’s Learning to Live (L2L) program at its downtown campus in Over-the-Rhine. Chatfield received a $25,000 grant for the 2018-19 academic year.

The Learning to Live program (L2L), launched in 2009, empowers students to overcome barriers that could prevent them from completing their college education.  The L2L program assists with the cost of tuition, supports academic readiness, helps with emergency transportation to and from campus, and connects students with solutions for affordable, quality childcare.

“These support services are so meaningful to our students. It can be the difference between being overcome by obstacles and being able to stay in school. Not only do the resources help with tangible things like childcare, but it also instills a sense of confidence and pride in the students when they succeed,” said Judy Ten Eyck, Chatfield’s former librarian at the OTR campus.

“At our downtown campus, more than half of our students are parents with young children at home. The majority of Chatfield students are African American, women over twenty-five, often a first-generation college student, and one who may have encountered a number of challenges in a previous attempt at earning a degree.’ said Chatfield’s president John P. Tafaro. “We are grateful that the Charles H. Dater Foundation recognizes how wrap-around support empowers students to be successful and has generously funded Chatfield’s Learning to Live program for nine years.”

Founded in 1985, The Charles H. Dater Foundation awards grants to non-profit organizations in the Greater Cincinnati area to benefit children, youth and young adults.
