Chatfield Summer Enrichment Program A Huge Success

For the fourth consecutive year, Chatfield College offered Summer Enrichment courses open to the community from June 5-July 14 at the St. Martin campus.

According to Patricia Homan, VP of Mission and Identity, St. Martin Site Director, and coordinator of the program, this year was the most successful program yet.  “The participation numbers for all courses increased over the last three years,” said Sr. Patricia.  “We are looking forward to next summer’s offerings and increasing the popularity of this program.”

Gary Keuffer, coordinator of education for the Brown County Beekeepers Association, exhibits some of the materials beginners would need to start keeping bees.

Back by popular demand were Basic Drawing, Tai Chi, Guitar, Brown County History, and Pottery.  New this year, and very popular, was a course on Bees and Pollinators, taught by Chris Dresel, president, and Gary Keuffer, coordinator of education for the Brown County Beekeepers Association.  According to Sr. Patricia, this class topped participation numbers for all courses over the four years Chatfield has offered Enrichment courses.

“The course was very well received,” said Gary Keuffer.  “I was encouraged by the number of people who attended.  Beekeeping has attracted a lot of interest lately and the people in the class were very engaged.  They asked a lot of questions and some of them have even attended the Brown County Beekeeper’s Association meetings so I know they are still interested and maybe even have the intent to follow through with area Beekeeping.”

Plans are underway for next year’s Enrichment Program, which is sure to feature another Beekeeping class.  Each enrichment class meets once per week for six weeks. There is a modest cost for each course, plus applicable fees which vary according to supplies needed.
