1) Moving Towards Freedom: From Ohio Statehood to Reconstruction
Saturdays: 10:00 am to 11:15 am; June 1 to June 29
This course will explore the African American experience from the beginning of Ohio statehood through the Underground Railroad era to Reconstruction. It is designed to develop and support competencies in social behavior and cultural, while examining the rise of enslavement and resistance, ideas about race, and the shaping of freedom. It then culminates with emancipation at the end of the Civil War, followed by the Reconstruction era. Although the African American experience is one of struggle and relentless adversity, it is also one of triumph and perseverance. In spite of the challenges, African Americans formed enduring communities and lasting legacies. This course highlights the multifaceted ways African Americans addressed social realities and systemic oppression while simultaneously contributing to the history of the United States. 2) Response Art: Art Therapy and Self Care
Wednesdays: 6:30pm to 8:30pm; July 10 to August 7
Art is a way to nurture physical, mental and emotional health. Through art making, students will deepen their understanding of stress and its effect on wellness. A brief history of art therapy and contemporary practices in the field will be explored to educate students on techniques to develop or enhance their individual self care practice. This course carries an additional fee of $10 for supplies.

3) CPR and Basic First Aid
Saturdays: 9:00 am to 10:30 am; June 22 to July 13
When you understand first aid and CPR, you’ll gain the ability to help those in medical need. Through this basic first aid and CPR class you’ll learn how to respond to specific situations, which will help you care for people in crisis as they wait for medical professionals to arrive. Successful students will receive a certificate in CPR. This course carries an additional fee of $20 for certification. Maximum enrollment: 7
4) Journal Writing for Self Awareness and Stress Reduction
Wednesdays: 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm; June 5 to July 3
A course on using journal writing to reduce stress. Topics include: journaling techniques for self-reflection, self-exploration, self-healing, and others.
